other activities
In addition to the beautiful treks through Nepal, there is also a great array of other popular activities. For instance, Nepal is known as one of the best countries in the world for rafting & kayaking, with dramatic trips of between one and ten days duration on rivers ranging from Grade 2 to Grade 5. Another exciting option is mountain-biking, the ideal ‘go-anywhere’ machine for exploring everywhere from gently sloping valleys up into the heights of challenging mountains.
For those desiring a less strenuous vacation, Nepal offers some truly unique sight-seeing opportunities, including the palaces of the three royal cities in the Kathmandu Valley, illustrating Nepalese art at its height. Among the 130 monuments are pilgrimage centres, temples, shrines, bathing sites and gardens – all sites of veneration for Hindu & Buddhist alike. Further to these attractions, the scenic Pokhara valley boasts lakes, waterfalls, caves and gorges, as well as museums, swing bridges, and The World Peace Stupa (more info).
Nepal is also renowned for its exceptional biodiversity, its sixteen national parks are home to elephants, tigers, rhinoceroses and crocodiles. Jungle safaris are an excellent way to experience this facet of the country, generally consisting of canoe rides, four-wheel driving, nature walks, bird-watching excursions, and short tours and cultural-musical performances around the local villages.
